Chrysler has officially announced the reopening of its Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit that will produce the next-generation Viper. The Conner plant was closed in July 2010 when production of the Dodge Viper ended.

The next-generation Viper will return in late 2012 as a 2013 model, but will drop the Dodge name and instead be referred to as the SRT Viper.

“We’re extremely excited that our ultimate American sports car will continue to live on and be produced exclusively here in the Motor City,” stated Ralph Gilles, President and Chief Executive Officer – SRT Brand and Motorsports, Chrysler Group LLC.

The 2013 Viper is expected to pack a massive 8.7L V10 engine with more than 600 horsepower. We could see the new Viper as early as next month at the Detroit Auto Show.
