Hydraulic HybridsHydraulic Hybrids![]() UPS is joining the green movement with its hydraulic hybrid delivery trucks. Hydraulic hybrids pair a conventional motor with a hydraulic propulsion system. The propulsion system uses energy gathered while the vehicle brakes to power a pump. The pump moves fluid from a reservoir to an actuator. In the actuator, the fluid becomes pressurized. When it's time for the vehicle to move, the actuator uses the pressurized fluid to power a motor that's attached directly to the vehicle's driveshaft, resulting in very little energy loss. |
