Alvarezsaurus calvoli
Pictures: DCI |

Alvarezsaurus calvoli
Name Means: Named for historian Don Gregorio Alvarez
Time: Late Cretaceous (80 million years ago)
Location: Argentina
Identified in 1991 from fossil evidence in Argentina, this small meat-eater has been classified by some researchers as a flightless bird. About 6 feet long, its thin, flat tail more than half its body length, with long legs and feet, Alvarezsaurus would have been a swift runner. It had large, hooked forelimbs and a snout containing small, non-serrated teeth.
