Discovery Communications' theatrical documentary unit, Discovery Docs, presents groundbreaking subject matter that tackles compelling topics and — in some cases — uses provocative approaches and techniques. The films showcase some of the most respected talent in nonfiction and documentary production, while nurturing new filmmakers' visions as well.
A platform for the independent filmmaking community, Discovery Docs initially premieres the banner's high-end, high-impact documentaries in theaters. Each one then segues to a world telecast premiere on Discovery Channel in an arrangement that marks a first for a U.S. broadcaster.
Discovery Docs debut on Discovery Channel with a pair of documentaries that have already attracted national interest and acclaim: Grizzly Man, now playing in select theaters, and With All Deliberate Speed, created on the 50th anniversary of the Supreme Court's Brown vs. Board of Education decision, which declared "separate but equal" segregated public schools unconstitutional. The unit will build to an output of three documentaries a year by 2006.
Grizzly Man will premiere on Discovery Channel in the first quarter of 2006. With All Deliberate Speed premiered on Discovery Channel May 26, 2005.
