Gobs of Galaxies

Picking up from where ground-based telescopes leave off, Hubble peers through a massive globular star cluster 17,000 light-years from Earth called Omega Centauri. The region is so densely packed with stars — more than 50,000 stars are estimated to reside within a section of the sky 13 light-years across — that occasionally the stars collide.

The Hubble image can pinpoint individual members of the 12 billion-year-old cluster.
