Hallye Galbraith began her career in television news production almost by accident.
She spent several years traveling the world as a member of the sales staff of World Airways. When the airline closed down, Galbraith returned to the Washington, D.C., area, where she had grown up. She took a temporary job at a production company that was under contract to CNN. But the job of scheduling studio time soon became permanent and Galbraith ended up managing technical logistics for live shoots, both at the studio and in the field. She has worked in television production ever since.
After two years at GTE Space Net — where she managed satellite bookings for television networks — Galbraith longed to return to news production. After stops at CNN and USA Today on TV, Galbraith was offered a position at Nightline as production manager in 1993.
Working a crazy schedule for 13 years, Galbraith managed the fast-breaking broadcast logistics behind the daily — and nightly — production of the show. When she was promoted to operations manager, Galbraith added the show’s budgeting and finance to her portfolio. She loved her time at Nightline, working "as a part of one of the best staffs in television news."
As senior operations producer of Koppel on Discovery, Galbraith manages all the production and financial aspects of the unit. She is the Koppel group's liaison to all the production, legal, marketing and financial departments of the Discovery Channel. She is excited by the many new challenges of working at Discovery and by the mandate to bring an "in-depth take on the big issues of the day in a way that's consistent with Discovery's brand of smart programming."
When Galbraith isn't making television she enjoys traveling and cooking for friends and family.
