Not surprisingly, one of the first recruiting posters to capitalize on the Lusitania disaster was produced in Ireland where many residents of Queenstown and other points along the south coast had a firsthand look at the carnage wrought by the sinking. This poster dates to May 1915, when many Irishmen, mostly the urban poor, were still joining the colors to fight for Great Britain. Within a year, however, the Irish nationalist uprising against British rule had reduced enlistments to a trickle.
