At the outbreak of World War I, Great Britain was the only major power that relied solely on volunteers to fill its ranks. Heavy losses would eventually bring conscription but, in 1915, the British war effort still depended on recruiting posters like the one seen here to inspire its men to put on a uniform. This heroically styled poster, typical of the period, was issued by the Parliamentary Recruiting Committee within weeks after the Lusitania went down.
