Expedition Day 8
small text
large text

8:00 a.m. — Jim Cameron and Dr. Anatoly Sagalevitch agree to dive today to test the robotic ROVs without employing the fiber-optic link to the surface. The day is spent repairing and testing the bots. In the small ship's swimming pool, the buoyancy issue appears to be addressed. Control is also approved. Dive set for this evening.

8:45 p.m. — Both Mirs are launched in sequence. Without the video link, communication with the subs is extremely limited. The Russian-operated acoustic transponder system is our only link.

Midnight — The Russians report that the subs are on the wreck and one bot is operational. Cameron is exploring the Titanic!

Stephen Reverand is Executive Producer and Vice President of Special Projects for Discovery Channel.
