small text
large text
The entire lifetime of the tornado itself was less than 10 minutes, according to Howard B. Bluestein, a professor of meteorology at the University of Oklahoma. He includes these photographs in his book Tornado Alley: Monster Storms of the Great Plains (Oxford University Press; 1999).

View a slide show of the fleeting life of a tornado taken in Oklahoma during a May day in 1981.
