Hello Jane,
I respectfully consider you the "Michael Jordan" of adventure racing. What would you say is the most important attribute of a successful adventure athlete? And will Team Aussie be pushing for another victory in Patagonia this year?
Cheers,
Greg

Hey Jane; I watched your team on the Morrocco expedition and it was really aspiring. It encouraged me so much that i want to start a team of my own hopefully for the year 2000. My team will be the youngest of them all. I will try to recruit members 21 to 25. I t will be most benificail to me if you would share some of your ideas with me.

As a marine biologist how is it to trek around on land? Do you just stop and look around yourself and your teammates at the wonders of that spread out in front of you?
Have you ever heard of teams that their members have just froze up from the fatigue and gazed out onto the horizon?
Keep the adventure going.......

first off, congrats on a job well done. second, i just finished watching the first half of the race, and one of the comments you made related to how you disliked the cold. then i read that you are planning to go to the challenge in Patagonia, which features mountaineering thru ice and snow covered mountains. what do you plan to do to prepare for what is certain to be a very unpleasant experience?

Congradulations, I wish I could have been there. How did you get involved with the Eco-challenge?
Many future good wills.

I'm a big fan of yours!! A couple of questions...
First, about how much does it cost to do an EcoChallenge (entry fees, travel, gear, etc.).
Second, can any team that pays the entry fee get in, or is there a process? How many teams apply each year, and how many get in?
Thanks!

I really admire you for your strength and endurance.
Last year was the first time I seen the ECO Challenge and fell in love with it. This is a major dream of mine.
Please tell me how they picked you and your team members (or how you and your team got invited) to enter this competition? How much does it cost?
I am very serious about getting involved in this as it has now turned into a life time goal for me.
Thank you Jane for you are a true inspiration for me.

Jane, you are an inspiration to myself as a woman AND an athelete. As a current marathoner, what would you suggest I add to my list in terms of sports and competitions to prepare for an eventual ECOChallenge?

The "Michael Jordan" of adventure racing, indeed! Personally, I intend to speak to the Queen about knighthood. Dame Jane; I like the sound of that. You, my sister, are the standard by which the rest of us mere mortals are measured. A pleasure and an honor to orbit your universe.
Much love,

Jane--
I was watching the eco-challenge Morocco last night and was in awe of the participants and the physical and mental fortitude that is necessary to sustain a team through such an event! You are really inspiring and quite apparently the "queen" of the eco-challenge! Congratulations! You give women everywhere the desire to challenge their limits! Keep racing!

Hi Jane, I just wanted to tell you that you are truly an inspiration to all female athletes and I was wondering what it felt like to start out into the night in first place and then suddenly get lost in the gorge? Was there any dissapointment when you dropped out of first place after holding on for so long? However, there is much of the race still left to go and I believe you and your team will be right back on top in no time at all. Good luck to you and your team!!! Sincerely, Karen :o)

You are without a doubt the most interesting athlete I've had the pleasure of watching in the Eco Challenge over the years. You are such a trouper -- never complaining, never whinging, making it all look so effortless.
Good on you, girl, and don't stop competing. You put some of those big macho men to shame with your talents.
I would like to know your feelings regarding Team Mexico's comments about their female team member. They were so disparaging towards her, acting as if she had nothing to offer other than meeting the requirement of being a female. I found it rather sad, and completely out of the spirit of the Eco Challenge. The men on your team seem to treat you as an equal and respect your opinion.
What advice would you give her (besides finding another team) to deal with openly hostile teammates?
Good look in Patagonia,
Clam Lice

Many of the teams became lost in hike after the kayak portion. Does the Eco challenge have rules against the use of a GPS? Believe me when I say everyone in the Eco Challenge is an inspiration to many...

Dear Jane,
I have been watching you compete in Eco-Challenge since British Columbia, and I have to say that you are my hero. I am awaiting the day when I will get to cross the finish line of Eco-Challenge. I am only 17 right now but I am training hard and I watch every year. Everyone that I know says that I am obssesed with it, because I have hats and shirts and I tape every year. All I know is that adventure racing is my passion. And I just want you to know that you are my inspiration. You Rock! I hope to see you in many more races to come. If you have any advice for a young Eco-Challenge hopeful, I would love to hear from you. You have no idea how much your advice would mean to me.
Keep on treking,
Lindi

Jane,
What a fabulous athlete, and fantastic person. I thought it was so sweet of you to give team Cepos's gal a hug at the end. You knew exactly what she needed and had the perception to give it. As my father would say, "Good on ya then". Did I mention Aussie's rule?
Best Wishes,

Average People - NOT
by dupdawn,
Mon Apr 12 22:58:55 1999
Jane,
I liked your comment that you don't have to be a
superhuman to complete the eco challenge - just a
group of average people. It is amazing how much
average people can accomplish when we push our
boundaries! I like to climb peaks in Colorado -
and I think I'm addicted to that feeling of struggling
to the top of a peak, sore and exhausted, sunburned,
hungry, sick. How incredible it is to get there
and see how much I overcame to summit! And how wonderful to go
out the next weekend and find that I can go a little
farther and push myself a little harder. I can
only imagine feeling the kind of satisfaction that
comes from finishing an adventure like the eco-challenge.
Thank you for your spirit, class, and humility...
you're an inspiration to all of the 'average people'
who wonder just how far we can take our strength!
Best regards,
Dawn, Colorado USA

I've watched you race since the ECO-Challenge British Columbia, you and your teammates are truly inspiring and amazing. Since the team that won Eco-Challenge Australia was not in Morocco, did that make your team the team to beat??? Also, I believe the race in British Columbia was the toughest compared to the race in Australia and Morocco, do you agree???
Why or why not???
Thanks and all the best of luck in the future!!!

We have now watched you in 2 Eco Challenges and have come away each time inspired by your will - endurance, your ability to see the beauty through the pain, your leadership AND teamwork skills, and your compassion (ie; hug to 3rd place lady).
Of the many things that you draw from in your personal life what has helped you to see through to the end for each of the Eco Challenges..?
Happy and healthy continuing journeys to you
