SATURDAY, APRIL 16, 2005

Saturday was a lighter day, with several periods of downtime because of prolonged camera set-ups, including the closure of Disney World Drive, the route to get into the park. So, during one down period, Mike, the shoot's Disney directors and some Discovery Channel folk took a detour and went on MGM's "The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror," a ride that features a 13-story drop.

Note to selves: Mike's not much of a thrill-ride fan. The picture in the slide show says it all.

During another down period, while the directors set up the scene when Mike rides his scooter down Main Street, the group relaxed at Disney World's Visitor Center. Inside is a very calming room outfitted with '40s-style furniture and props, a mini-fridge of soft drinks and piped-in Disney music (which sparked a strangely prolonged and emotional debate about the value of musicals). The room also boasted a television and several Disney tapes, including a sing-along video that the gang was just getting into when Mike was called back to the set.

Although it was scheduled to end at 6 p.m., the day actually wrapped about an hour earlier, giving Mike the opportunity to chill at the hotel before it was time to leave for another steak dinner at Shula's (see a pattern here?). This evening went a lot later than the previous one, however, with the Discovery Channel group yapping with Mike and his friend Andy (interrupted occasionally by fan photo ops) in the hotel lounge area until after 1 a.m.

Favorite overheard comment: "It's Mikey! You know, that guy from American Chopper who's always messing things up!" by a woman on a cell phone in a bathroom stall.

9:00 a.m. — pick up Mikey from hotel
9:30 a.m. — Mikey in make up
10:00 a.m. — shoot scene 1D, entrance to stunt show
10:30 a.m. — relocate to Disney World Drive
11:30 a.m. — shoot scene 1B, entrance to Disney-MGM Studios
12:00 p.m. — relocate to MGM Studios
1:00 p.m. — shoot bumps and watch rehearsal of Lights, Motors, Action! stunt show
2:00 p.m. — meal break
3:30 p.m. — relocate to Main St. location
4:15 p.m. — shoot crowd shots
4:30 p.m. — shoot Mikey driving down Main St.
