Justin was a perfect fit for the Time Bandit when he joined the boat in 2010. Big, boisterous and tough, Justin was cut from the same pirate-flag cloth as the Hillstrand clan. A Homer native, he came back for his first crabbing season in seven years after an arm injury. Justin tendered salmon on the Time Bandit for the last two years, and knew the Hillstrands for years before coming onto the boat for crab fishing. Justin had a 15-year-old daughter and six-year-old son, but was no longer married. "My heart is at sea," he said. Tragically, just 8 days after the Time Bandit finished its 2011 Opilio season, Justin died in his sleep in his hometown of Homer. The Time Bandit family later held a special memorial for him.
