Question:
Why are some episodes shown in letterbox format and some aren't? Also, in early episodes, Mike would say, "I'm Mike Rowe," but as the seasons went on, he changed to, "My name's Mike Rowe." Was this something he decided to do or was it suggested by you? I know I'm a nit-picking, detail-oriented person but I just can't help myself ... It's what I do.

Answer: We made the switch to letterbox format in July 2006; all segments are filmed that way now. You are seeing some old repeats mixed in.

As for Mike's intro, well, he just forgets his lines sometimes!

Question: Could you please tell me what ever happened to the awesome garbage can cake that was created by the company that served the food at DJ150? I was hoping to see it during the episode. It is too bad that they brought it out after almost everyone had left. It was quite a creation.

Answer: We never had time to shoot anything with it. However, Mike and I shot a little bit with it at his place the next day. Footage coming to a Web site near you.

Then we fed it to the stray cats that congregate by his back door at 5 p.m. every night.

Question: I sent you a letter at Pilgram [stet] with some contact information. My name is Ryan and i hope you get it whenever you get back to your office. I am going to college for broadcasting and some day hope to have a carrer has a professional cameraperson. Please let me know what you think and if you can send me some information from pilgram about a resume, i address is in the letter at Pilgram Film and TV.

Answer: Have yet to receive a letter. However, the best advice I can give you is try to get your potential employer's information correct, including the spelling of the company.

Yes, you made a mistake, but I'm not just being snarky. When I first graduated, I sent 120 resumes to 120 television stations across the country. I used a generic blanket cover letter, only changing the station address in the letterhead and the city name in the body of the letter. Of 120 sent, only 58 took the time to send a letter of rejection. I never did get a single reply from any station in Indianapolis. Turns out I forgot to change the city name in the body of the letter for all of the stations I sent one to, referring to them as Kalamazoo!

By the way I received only one phone call for an interview, Channel 6 in Spokane, Wash. Interestingly, they were the only station that for some reason sent me two letters of rejection previously!
Good luck,
-- Dave
