All you have to do is come up with a myth, and tell us how you would test it on camera. Just videotape yourself describing the myth and showing us a little bit of a building part of the experiment. It doesn't need to be complicated, but we need to know what you can do with a set of tools!
There's some other stuff you'll need to do, too. It's all below. Good luck!
You must:
* be a U.S. citizen or legal resident alien with proper permits to work in the United States;
* be 21 years old or older;
* hold a valid U.S. driver's license;
* be available to travel at a moment's notice as determined by the producers at their sole discretion;
* be available to relocate for the entire production to San Francisco, if required, and travel to other U.S. cities for blocks of up to 20 weeks at a time for approximately 40 weeks in total during the period from February 2004 through July 2005;
* be willing to provide proof that you are physically up to the task (this has to come from a doctor and not your mom ... unless your mom is a doctor); and
* have no past or outstanding criminal warrants or arrests (including vehicular).
Note: A weekly salary commensurate with the position will be paid to the successful applicant during shoot periods.
Your next steps are:
* to download our application form and Terms and Conditions, Waiver and Release of Liability document by clicking on the link below, going to "file: save as" and saving it to your C drive. Then just open it from your C drive, carefully fill it out and print it.
* to sign your application with the Terms and Conditions, Waiver and Release of Liability (one per applicant, please).
* to create a three-minute videotape (one per applicant) according to the guidelines listed below, in which you describe your experiment and/or demonstrate how it would work. Please tell us also why you should be picked for MythBusters. We will only consider tapes up to three minutes in length (VHS only no MiniDV, Hi8, etc.). Any and all materials submitted to DCI and/or the producers as part of this application shall become the property of the producers and will not be returned. The tape may be used as part of the program or as part of the promotion of the program.
* to write down a description of your experiment outline in no more than three 8" x 11" pages. Describe, step by step, exactly how you imagine this experiment unfolding in chronological order. What do you want to achieve? Be very specific. Where exactly does it take place? What materials are needed for the experiment? How long would it take to complete?
* to mail all the above materials together in one package to: Beyond Productions; 4330 East West Highway; North Tower; 9th Floor; Bethesda MD 20814.
* to postmark your application materials by Monday, Feb. 16, 2004. The producers and DCI reserve the right to extend this deadline at their sole discretion and to change the application in parts or in its entirety.
Your videotape should:
* include a statement at the start of the tape telling us your name, age, home city and occupation;
* include a statement of why you should be chosen to appear on MythBusters;
* be creative and fun and show us that you can think through a practical experiment design;
* be no longer than three minutes in duration;
* include a description of your myth on camera and preferably a working model of the experiment; and
* be in VHS format.
Also note that:
* The producers and DCI reserve the right to extend this deadline at their sole discretion and to change the application in parts or in its entirety.
* Limit one application per applicant.
* MythBusters the series is co-produced by Beyond Productions Pty Ltd. and Discovery Communications Inc. The producers will select the participants to be featured as part of this TV programming at their sole discretion.
