PATIENT: KAREN HOLSTROM

Karen Holstrom lives in Park City, Utah, with her husband. She retired at an early age and found herself willing to give the gift of life by becoming an altruistic donor. She logged on to a donor program Web site, and from there met Alex Pratt. Alex and Karen became fast friends, and in May 2006, she traveled to Johns Hopkins to become an integral part of the historic triple kidney swap.
