Ever feel like walking barefoot in a grassy field, feeling free and at one with nature? Well, now you can simulate that experience — at least underneath your feet — with KUSA’s, a new flip flop from Australia, with grass built into the insoles. However, the grass too is simulated — using high quality syn-turf material with a natural look and feel of real grass.
“Unfortunately, Mother Nature’s grass is just not durable enough,” says Yashin Radhakrishnan, creator of the peculiar footwear.
Wearing the grass flip flops are sure to spawn curiosity, attention, and conversation, but their intent is more than to be a fad. “They are an attempt to treat the syndrome of disconnection from nature and from community felt by modern society, especially by urban dwellers,” says Radhakrishnan. “KUSA’s are, first and foremost a form of escapism from inflexible reality and rebellion from imposed conformity.”
That’s quite a loaded fashion statement when all you have to do is sport them around wherever you go, may it be on the sidewalks of a big urban sprawl, the beach, or — if you’re into irony — on an actual lawn. How’s that for a conversation starter?
