Prosthetic Arm Made Entirely of LEGOs (Video)

Max Shepherd created a functional robotic arm fashioned out of LEGOs, electric motors and pneumatics. The end product is a prosthetic arm that can recreate the entire range of motion of a human arm, hand and fingers.

Don’t expect to see the LEGO arm as a prosthetic replacement yet. The movement is impressive, albeit a bit slow. From the looks of the video above, it doesn’t appear to have strength on its side yet. But this is an amazing creation repurposing a childhood favorite.

The arm, wrist, hand, fingers and joints have varying degrees of freedom to mimic human motion. The robotic arm can also grasp objects, such as a water bottle, with a little human help, as demonstrated in the video and images below. Here are some highlights from the video:
