Do you think the government is too opaque? The Transparency Grenade can fix that.

Taking the form of a Soviet hand grenade, the gizmo pictured above can capture key information and leak it from closed-door meetings with the simple action of pulling a pin. The Transparency Grenade can securely and anonymously stream network traffic and audio to a dedicated server, with the help of a small computer, microphone and powerful wireless antenna. An online, public map shows the location of the “detonation,” piecing together email fragments, Web pages, images and audio.

“Whether trusted employee, civil servant or concerned citizen, greater openness was never so close at hand..,” TransparencyGrenade.com says.

The device was created in January by Julian Oliver for the studio Weise7 exhibition in Berlin. The body, made of a highly resistant resin called Tusk2700T, was based on a replica Soviet F1 hand grenade. Below are images of the public map. An Android app with similar capabilities that runs in the phone’s background is also in development.
