And the World Shook

At 5:13 a.m. on April 18, 1906, the city of San Francisco awoke to what would become known as the Great Earthquake. The powerful shock was felt from Oregon to Los Angeles and as far east as central Nevada covering an area of more than 375,000 square miles. Buildings collapsed, trees fell like match sticks and a devastating fire ignited and raged out of control for four days. The death toll has been estimated at more than 3,000.
