If you’re more comfortable negotiating moguls on a black diamond than you are negotiating a date in a bar full of women, you might want to take a run at Chairlift Speed Dating. Trapped on a lift a few hundred feet up the mountain, you’ve got a captive audience.
The annual event took place Saturday on Black Mountain in Jackson, NH, where skiers and snowboarders rode a double chairlift with a potential mate, and had until the top of the run to decide whether to ski off together, or head back down the mountain solo and try another lift partner.
Registration was free (as long as you had a valid lift ticket), and lovestruck lift riders could get dating advice and some suggested opening lines to get the conversation going from “self proclaimed ‘love consultants’” Mitzi and Karen.
For those with especially strong chairlift game, there were awards for the best pickup lines of the day, and an après ski party was held complete with “love potions” and prizes for those who rode the lift of love and took a shot at scoring a new Valentine.
No word on whether for next year’s event, they’ll rate the daters as “Bunny Slopes” for shy guys, to “Double Black Diamonds” for players, so the ladies know what they’re in for on the way up the mountain.
