What is it that inspires some people to risk their lives by making motorcycles do things that look, well, impossible to do? Nobody really knows the answer to that question, but maybe if you asked Robbie Maddison or Robbie Knievel, they could at least give you a hint.

There's little question, however, that the modern age of spectacular stunt biking began with Robbie's father, Evel Knievel, the most daring, flamboyant motorcycle stunt driver of all time. By the time he died in 2007, the elder Knievel's stunts had been duplicated by other riders and his records broken (much like quite a few of his bones had been over the years). But Evel Knievel was the man who showed that stunt biking was not only possible but that it could be a major event that would attract huge crowds, could be telecast on network television and could be a professional sport that brave (or maybe just crazy) motorcycle and motocross drivers could use to make a living.

With that said, let's look at some of the most spectacular and record breaking stunts that these fearless individuals have performed over the last five decades.
