Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter
NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter dips into the thin Martian atmosphere to adjust its orbit in this artist's illustration. The orbiter, which arrived on Mars in March 2006, is designed to advance the understanding of Mars through detailed observation and to examine potential landing sites for future surface missions. The latest images showing possible signs of water on Mars today are the most intriguing of a growing portfolio.
