Microtektites (bits of meteor impact glass) were collected at the summit plateaus of the Transantarctic Mountains, shown here. This panoramic view reveals the glacially eroded flats at summit surface where microtektites were found. The analysis of the microtektites revealed they may represent the edges of the Australasian strewn field, which extends from the Indian Ocean to the Pacific. |
