Whirly Spiral of Stars
The Southern Pinwheel galaxy, otherwise known as M83, was found to have stars at the far reaches of its long, gangly arms. Thanks to a new view of the galaxy by NASA's Galaxy Evolution Explorer and the National Science Foundation's Very Large Array, shown here, scientists believe the stars may have formed from hydrogen and helium atoms. |
