Not a Great Idea, Says Study
This graphic shows one concept of a sunshade by University of Arizona astronomer Roger Angel, who directs Steward Observatory Mirror Laboratory and the Center for Astronomical Adaptive Optics. The transmitted sunlight is spread out, so it misses the Earth. Angel envisions using such a system under dire circumstances when cooling is needed. But new research has concluded that sunshade solutions are not feasible.
