This is a Trichoplax, a placozoan species. Analysis shows that placozoans are the closest living surrogate to the ancestor of all non-bilaterian animals, such as corals, jelly fish and hydra. A sperm-like species, monosiga, may be the common ancestor to all animals, the studies found. | Discovery News Video
