Opening Up 'Like a Zipper'
The rate of deforestation in Brazil was up 4 percent from last year. The government has an array of efforts to stem the loss, but continues to fund dams, highways, gas pipelines and other massive infrastructure projects that are "going to open up the heart of the Amazon like a zipper," according to William Laurance, a tropical ecologist at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama City. | Discovery News Video
