Patches of Mars Soils
March 26, 2004 — This mosaic of microscopic images (each about two centimeters by two centimeters or .8 inches by .8 inches) from Meridiani Planum shows the very different soil types and shapes found so far by Opportunity. Scientists are trying to understand the sorting mechanisms that have distributed the various soil types.
