Direction of Departure
Jan. 12, 2004 — An overhead view of the rover shows it preparing to roll off the lander. The yellow arrow indicates the direction the rover may take. The rover was originally positioned to roll forward off the lander (south side of image), but an airbag is blocking its path. To take this new route to the Northeast, the rover must back up and perform what is likened to a 3-point turn in a cramped parking lot.
