Taking a Closer Look
Jan. 16, 2004 — This animation shows Spirit stretching out its robotic arm for its first time to deploy the microscopic imager, one of four geological instruments located on the arm. The frames show the arm emerging from its stowed position beneath the rover body, reaching out, and using the mi to take close-up images of the Martian soil.
