Discovery's two spacewalkers are tapped to make an unplanned third spacewalk to remove two protruding cloth fillers from between tiles on the shuttle's belly. The fabric strips are found in inspection photos taken by space station crewmembers before the shuttle docked. Engineers were concerned the strips could disrupt air flow around the shuttle during atmospheric re-entry and cause its heat shield to fail.
