DEADLIEST CATCH LEADS DISCOVERY’S PRIMETIME EMMY® NOMINATIONS WITH FOUR NODS INCLUDING OUTSTANDING NONFICTION SERIES
(Silver Spring, Md.) – Reeling in both viewers and critics, DEADLIEST CATCH has once again been recognized by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, earning Primetime Emmy® nominations in four different categories. Overall, Discovery Communications, the leader in nonfiction content, garnered a total of eight nominations for Discovery Channel (7) and Animal Planet (1) when the 61st Annual Primetime Emmy® Award nominations were announced today. Discovery Channel’s DEADLIEST CATCH, which captures the dangers, adventures and disasters of a fleet of crab-fishing boats on the icy Bering Sea, led the network in Primetime Emmy nominations in the following categories: Outstanding Nonfiction Series; Outstanding Sound Mixing for Nonfiction Programming; Outstanding Picture Editing for Nonfiction Programming; and Outstanding Cinematography for Nonfiction Programming. The network’s DIRTY JOBS, which profiles the unsung American laborers who make their living in the most unthinkable yet vital ways, received a nod for Outstanding Reality Program. MYTHBUSTERS, which tackles urban legends with science, received its first ever nomination in the Outstanding Reality Program category. OUT OF THE WILD: THE ALASKA EXPERIMENT is in the running for Outstanding Cinematography for Reality Programming. In addition, Discovery Communications’ portfolio of networks received five News and Documentary Emmy® nominations, announced on Tuesday, for informative programs featured on Discovery Channel (4), and Discovery Health (1). The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences presents the Primetime Emmy Awards, long considered the highest honor in television. Winners will be announced at the Creative Arts Awards ceremony held on Saturday, September 12, at the NOKIA Theatre in Los Angeles, and the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards will be telecast live on CBS on Sunday, September 20 also from the NOKIA Theatre.
