Nome looks more like a slice of the Wild West on this week’s new Bering Sea Gold episode when two Christine Marie crewmen get into a bloody brawl at a local watering hole.
Shawn Pomrenke and Cody Moen just wanted to toast a great clean-out but another customer was out to spoil their fun. As Cody put it simply after the fight, “all these guys are watching you 24 hours a day digging gold and they get a little jealous and they want to start some stuff.”
Watch how things played out:
What really sucks is that success means you have to watch your back, especially when you’re pulling in the gold like the Christine Marie. And Shawn may just have more to deal with since he’s a year-round resident of Nome that only numbers about 3,000 souls.
About that gold haul again – one fan on the Message Boards called it right when he noticed that:
“An 80 ft dredge (The Christine Rose) got more gold in 1 day than Hoffmans got all this season.”
That’s a bundle of glitter that’s hard to keep secret in a town with a history like Nome’s.
But hell, I’d celebrate with a few drinks too although I might don body armor if it’s at the Breakers Bar.
