U.S. Drug WarsWatching this show made me realize something. I have no idea what real danger actually is.

U.S. Drug Wars, which aired originally on Investigation Discovery, follows a few different teams from top US law enforcement agencies working to stop the massive crime wave flooding into the US from Mexico. And drugs aren’t the only problem — kidnapping, human smuggling and guns are part of it too. The men and women on the show wake up every day and storm into drug stash houses, negotiate safe release of hostages from armed cartel kidnappers, chase fugitives into a desert in the black pitch of night and countless other things that are just unthinkable for most of us with a normal nine to five.

I remember spending months convincing my husband to quit his bouncing job at a bar in suburbia years ago. I was afraid he might get hurt or worse trying to break up a bar fight. Needless to say, that big worry seems small now in comparison. Microscopically small.

Here’s just a taste of what you’ll see on this series. The first episode starts out at the US-Mexico port of entry in Nogales, Arizona. It’s a hub of illicit activity with 20-30,000 travelers per day and one arrest made every hour. The entire place is Managed by Dept. of Homeland Security’s Customs and Border Protection Supervisor, Jerry Myers and only 15 officers. One of their first stops was pickup truck with dope in a metal container that had been built into the undercarriage. It was in there so tight that a group of officers had to take turns smashing it with a sledge hammer to get it out!

These are unbelievable stories, so don’t miss it — Thursdays at 9PM e/p.
