Even though he’s been doing all that’s asked of him for months, Quartz Creek miner Jim Thurber still has to play guinea pig in this week’s Gold Rush premiere “In The Black.”

Watch Sneak Peek Video

If you remember from last season, the former fisherman and sheet metal worker was hired on as the camp safety officer but that’s all ancient history now. The Hoffmans need all hands on deck around the clock if they are going to beat the winter. Time to step up again Jim.

First, in his job as wash plant manager, he almost gets cut in half when he tries to free up a boulder.

Watch as darkness and miscues almost kill him:

Then he’s forced to learn a skill he’s always dreaded: Running The Loader!

Go Jim Go!

BTW, this week’s episode title “In The Black” is no joke. Seriously. Seems like only yesterday that Todd said he was coming home with 500 ounces. That’s just big time bluster now but there will be huge breakthroughs this week.

About time ’cause it’s starting to get real chilly up there.
