When I first heard the expression “Honey Hole” in this week’s new Bering Sea Gold episode I had that “uh-oh, here comes The Soup” moment like we all did when Gold Rush‘s “Glory Hole” showed up last year.
But if you check all the usual online sources, there’s every reason in the world to use Honey Hole for sweet spots on the Bering Sea floor. (BTW, I was only brave enough to Google “Glory Hole” once on my work computer – once was enough)
So without further adieu, here’s the Honey Hole debut:

Maybe there’s just something about the sound of “dragged along the bottom to find the honey hole” that leads you astray.
As it turns out, the use of Honey Hole goes way back with all kinds of folks including hunters and fishermen, and was even popular with the original Nome gold miners back in the early 1900′s both as a name for hot gold spots – and a whore house!
So there – I didn’t start it.
