Lauren EffronLauren Effron![]() Here's me on a snowboard in Pennsylvania. I'm still learning, but one day I'll get out west.
People are always a little skeptical when I say I've wanted to do journalism since I was in the second grade. It's a true story, though. I was out playing in the waves in Ocean City, Md. when Hurricane Emily came up the East Coast in 1993 and The Weather Channel caught me on camera. I saw myself on TV later that evening and was hooked. Not on being a Weather Channel star, but on crazy weather and on thinking, "people get to play with video cameras out in hurricanes? I want to do that!" Journalism has suited me well. I'm only happy when I'm creating something, talking to people and learning new things. I can't sit still. I always need to be "doing" and journalism satisfies those cravings on many platforms. Radio, TV, newspaper, online media - you name, I've at least had an internship in it. Past professional employers include both New York and Washington, D.C. Digital Media network bureaus for ABC News and 96.7 FM WCEI in Easton, Md. where I co-hosted The Morning Show for a summer. A 2008 graduate from the University of Maryland with a degree in broadcast journalism and government, I served as a reporter for UMTV's Maryland Newsline, the EP and reporter for 88.1 FM's weekly news show, Terp Weekly Edition, and as an editor and reporter for the student newspaper, The Diamondback. As a production assistant for Discovery News, Tech and Space, all those craving mentioned above continue to be well-feed everyday. I'm all over the place with helping to shoot, edit, produce video as well as producing photos, text, pages and other content for the sites. Originally from Cambridge, Md. on the Eastern Shore, I currently live in Berwyn Heights, Md. and love playing tennis, cooking, traveling and did I mention talking? |
