What else do I need to know before I enter?
Here are some other things you should consider before submitting an entry:
By submitting an entry, you grant permission, without limitation, for your photo and statement to be displayed online and on air as part of the "It Takes A Thief Prized Possession" Contest.
Be sure that your entry is your own original work created by you, is true and verifiable, has not been previously published, has not won a previous prize or award, that you own or otherwise control all of the rights to your entry materials and that your entry does not violate any law, regulation or any right of any third-party, including but not limited to rights of copyright, publicity and privacy. Submitting an entry that is copyrighted by another individual will make you responsible for any legal action the legal copyright holder might take against you.
Note that entrants grant the Sponsor all rights of ownership, reproduction, and use of entries for any purpose whatsoever without compensation or further permission, including but not limited to an irrevocable and perpetual, royalty-free, worldwide right, in all media (now known or later developed) to assign, use, publish, edit, adapt, modify, alter, reproduce, distribute, display, copyright, create derivative works or otherwise exploit entries, for commercial or non-commercial use, and without compensation to the entrant. By entering the Contest, each entrant waives any and all rights he or she may have to the entry statement and photograph. To the extent entrant has any rights in the entry statement and photograph, the entrant assigns all such rights to the Sponsor by entering the Contest.
Finally, entries may not defame or invade the rights of publicity or privacy of any person, living or deceased, or otherwise infringe upon a person's personal or proprietary rights. Submissions that are deemed by the judges in their sole discretion to be immoral, obscene, profane or not in keeping with Sponsor's image will be void. Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any entry at any time which, in the Sponsor's reasonable opinion, endangers the safety or well being of any person or in the event it is determined that the entrant has not complied with these Official Rules. Other than for winner notification, neither Sponsor, nor anyone acting on its behalf, will enter into any communication with any entrant regarding this Contest, nor will entries be acknowledged or returned.
How often can I enter?
You may enter as often as you wish, but each entry must be different, must meet all entry requirements and must be submitted separately. Entries must be completed in English.
How will the winners be determined?
Entries will be judged by Promotion Mechanics, Inc., an independent, qualified judging organization, based on the following judging criteria: originality (25%), uniqueness (25%), relevance to Contest theme (25%) and clarity of expression (25%). The winning entry will be the one that receives the highest cumulative score. In the case of a tie, the tie will be broken and the winner will be determined by the highest uniqueness score.
How can I find out who won?
The winner will be notified by email, phone, postal mail and/or express mail at Sponsor's sole discretion on or about December 15, 2006. If you'd like to know who won, just mail a self-addressed, stamped envelope to be received by December 31, 2006, to: "It Takes A Thief Prized Possession" Contest Winner List, PMI Station, PO Box 750, Southbury, CT 06488-0750.
Why is the Contest available only to U.S. residents?
Different rules and regulations associated with games of chance in other countries make it difficult to administer contests outside the United States.
What should I do if I can't reach the Contest web pages when I try to visit?
Come back and try again another time! Many Internet sites experience "traffic jams" from time to time. Refreshing the page may help. However, if you have problems connecting to all web sites, contact your system administrator; you may have a problem at your end.
I'm having trouble entering the Contest. My computer seems to be too slow or times out repeatedly. What should I do?
From time to time, the Internet experiences heavy periods of traffic. The slowdown in the registration process is often caused by a large number of consumers trying to register for the Contest at the same time. If you are experiencing "time-outs" while trying to register, we suggest that you wait a few minutes or try again at a later time.
I'm a Macintosh user. Will I have trouble entering the Contest?
No, the Contest is equally accessible through Macs and PCs.
Where can I send feedback about the Contest?
You can send general feedback and suggestions to online_sweepstakes@discovery.com.
What if I have read all of the FAQs and I'm still having a problem entering?
If you are still encountering difficulties entering, you can send an e-mail to online_sweepstakes@discovery.com to inform us of your questions. Please make sure you include a detailed description of your situation, your full name and the type of browser you use. We will make every effort to get to the bottom of any technical questions that may arise.
