Chief Scientific Advisor![]() The position isn't filled yet, but the British Secret Service is no longer accepting applications.
1. Chief Scientific Advisor for MI5 -- Vacant
Our top spot goes to a newly created position with the MI5, Britain's Security Service. The Chief Scientific Advisor must be a scientific and technological whiz kid, able to manage complex projects and lead a team of highly skilled individuals to support agents in the field. In other words, the person holding this job is a little bit of M and a whole lot of Q from the James Bond series. The Chief Scientific Advisor has a rough life. Some weeks might require as many as three full days in the office. And although the job requires a deep knowledge and understanding of science and technology, you probably won't see the Chief Scientific Advisor handing out spy gadgets like exploding pens or boutonnieres that fire tranquilizer darts. But you will see a government official with a finger on the pulse of the technological world. Currently, the position remains vacant. The MI5 stopped accepting applications back in April 2009 and said that it may take up to six months to process. We're pretty sure that anyone making references to 007, vodka martinis or Mrs. Moneypenny's wardrobe will not be considered. That wraps up our look at 10 of the coolest tech jobs out there. Many of the people on our list forged their own paths and created their positions. Who knows? Maybe next year you'll have created your own cool job and be on a list like this one. |
