When you hear that someone works in the technology industry, what do you imagine? Do visions of corporate drones staring at monochromatic screens and typing endlessly on keyboards fill your head? Do you think of Milton, the mumbling character obsessed with his Swingline stapler in the film "Office Space?" While there are plenty of people working in IT who will tell you that "Office Space" was more of a documentary than a comedy, that's not the only type of job out there in the tech sector. Technology is one of those fields that still holds the promise of the American dream: With the right idea and enough ambition, you can make it to the top! It may also take luck, the right connections and a sizable influx of capital from investors, but it's possible. Some of the people in this list are high-ranking executives who oversee multi-million dollar companies. Others are earning a living doing what they love. We'll start off our list with a couple of government employees. You might not think a government job is very cool, but when you take a close look at what they do you may change your mind. |
