A shoebill chick, filmed in the nest for the first time. These extraordinary birds proved very difficult to find; it took six months of research, a week on the ground to pinpoint the location and then two days to cut a path to the nest. But by using remote cameras so as not to disturb these vulnerable birds, the Africa crew revealed previously undocumented, and at times disturbing behavior.

Eye-to-eye with a magnificent male gelada. These "bleeding heart baboons" are unique to the Ethiopian highlands, the so-called "Roof of Africa." Temperatures up here often drop below freezing so geladas are dressed for the cold weather, in spectacular billowing coats. The bright red "bleeding" heart of the male indicates virility, attracting females and dissuading rivals.

A black rhino arrives early at a secret waterhole to join a nighttime gathering of sometimes 15 or so other rhinos. The Africa crew captured this unique behavior for the first, but possibly the last time – as poaching of black rhino has risen to a shocking level in the last five years.

Table Mountain shrouded beneath the billowing "Table Cloth" clouds. This icon of the continent overlooks Africa's southernmost tip, the Cape of Good Hope, where the cold Atlantic Ocean meets the warm Indian Ocean to create spectacular clouds over Table Mountain. But the interaction between these two great oceans does more than just create clouds; it shapes the whole of Africa's southern Cape.
