Elaine is Vern's daughter. She's been working as a waitress and a cook for several years and has had just about enough of it. Now, she's planning on working on one of her dad's dredges with her boyfriend Flint. When needed she will fill in on the Wild Ranger.
Elaine grew up mostly in Alaska, going to Homer High School with Emily Riedel. Elaine and Vern don't always get along very well. He does not approve of her living with Flint, so the two of them are staying in a tent behind the blue trailer. She says that her dad is very stressed out right now, so he's kind of a loose cannon.
Elaine's never dredged before but is planning on diving. As a greenhorn she's concerned about safety, but is excited to get out there and make a lot of money in a short amount of time.
