With a background in physical therapy, Karl was soon participating in the medical device startup scene. After participating in two startups, he landed with the innovative prosthetic leader Ossur in his native Iceland. There he was the product manager of prosthetic knees, including the Rheo Knee that was on Time magazine's list of "Most Amazing inventions of 2004." In 2006 Karl relocated to Southern California where he assumed various leadership roles within R&D and Marketing of Ossur's Orthopedics Division. Karl was involved in many design projects as well as being responsible for creating new services and sales processes. After five years with Ossur, Karl worked with Biomet as Director of Product Management and R&D for two years before returning to California to bring the groundbreaking Ekso to the market.
Karl has a bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Iceland and an MBA from the Rady School of Management at UCSD. He lives with his wife and three children in San Francisco.
