Sterling is Jack’s grandson, and his time on site is his first real experience with gold mining. He recently graduated from high school and is planning to attend college in a year, but is also learning a lot of life lessons on-site at the mine. About a month before he went home from his first time on the site, he was working late at night on an excavator and he was digging out a trench. He couldn’t help but think he had grown from a boy to a man over those five months because Todd decided to give him the trust to operate a huge piece of machinery in the dark.
Sterling is an avid basketball player and hopes to play in college; he’s also an all-state water polo player. He plays guitar and has a keen interest in golf. His goal is to become a public school administrator and help the school system get back on its feet in Oregon.
