The Icelandic landscape Bear and Jake visited is dominated by mountains, huge glaciers and some of Europe's most active volcanoes.

Jake went where Bear went, ate what Bear ate (including worms), and on occasion even took the lead. "For me, it's all about discovery," said Gyllenhaal.

Said Bear about the experience, "The wild is always very revealing — not only physically but mentally. You've got to smile when it's driving horizontal hail and be able to face your fears and just get on and do it — and on both of those accounts, Jake came up strong."

How did Jake Gyllenhaal prepare for taking on the treacherous terrains of Iceland with Bear Grylls? In his words, "Uh ... I've done nothing to prepare for this situation, so I feel like that's somewhat appropriate."

According to Jake Gyllenhaal, "Every time I've seen the show, I've just thought, 'Oh, I wonder what it's like to be there with him?' That's why I'm here."
