Kris Ford - Red Jacket's Rising Musical Star
Kris Ford got his start in music at a young age, beginning with middle school choir and progressing to a church choir, show choir, and drama club. He recorded his first few songs "in a friend's closet", singing on tracks for local hip-hop artists in exchange for recording time. It was years before he was able to find a live band to record with, but he eventually met Startisan, a local Baton Rouge rock band. Recent gigs have included local venues and a neighborhood community center for kids. Kris is looking forward to working on his first full-length album in the near future.
Kris writes all of his own music, from lyrics to melodies and harmonies. When it comes to influences he is admittedly an "old school type of guy," drawing inspiration from artists such as Bob Marley, Jim Morrison, the Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, and B.B. King. "I like guys that try to say something in their lyrics," Kris says. He uses music as an outlet, with expressive lyrics that focus on personal topics such as relationships and family. It's clear that music means a great deal to Kris - in his own words, "Music is a real good friend of mine."
