Adam Steltzner is the man responsible for navigating theMars Rover Curiosity’s famed “7 Minutes of Terror” from the planet’s atmosphere to the surface. A lead engineer for JPL, Adam has pierced ears, wears snakeskin boots and sports an Elvis-styled haircut, resulting in his nickname “The Rock and Roll Engineer.”
Steltzner joined NASA’s JPL in 1991 and has worked on several flight projects including Galileo, Cassini, Mars Pathfinder, Mars Exploration Rovers (MER)and Mars Science Laboratory. He has earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Univ. of California-Davis; a MS from the California Technical Institute; and a PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
