Bobak Ferdowsi

NASA's JPL Flight Director on Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity Mission

When NASA’s Curiosity Rover landed on Mars, its mohawked flight director became almost as famous as it did. Even President Obama acknowledged Bobak Ferdowsi when he called to congratulate the flight team, saying, "You guys are a little cooler than you used to be."

Bobak worked nine years on Curiosity and was part of every phase of the process, from design and trouble-shooting to directing the team that landed the rover. He majored in aerospace engineering at the University of Washington and holds a Master in Aeronautics from MIT. He was also Science Planner on the Cassini-Huygens mission.

Today, he still directs the mission and is proud to be a stylish proponent of America’s renewed interest in science.
