Alaska Experiment

Sept. 25

You decided to fish.

You brought back 70 pounds of meat and used zero bullets. If you continue to fish in this area, game will become scarce.

OK, so wrong state, but it’s the same thought. Alaska … What can I say? Salmon fishing is harder than I thought it would be but extremely rewarding. It's a lot of hard work for everything we do, but by the end of the day it's all worth it for a good night's sleep. Hard to come by when you sleep on the floor, so the exhaustion is always good. In a month or so, I'm sure we’ll be more settled into a routine and become less tired by a day's work, but for now I need sleep.

Sept. 30

Things have been very busy lately. We've canned 29 jars of salmon and built a shelf for it. We're planning a hammock system for sleeping on and more. There have been good fishing days and some not so great ones. We have been finding some wild berries, which taste delicious on oatmeal or fresh off the vine. There is always plenty of work to be done. Cooking, cleaning, organizing, fishing, cutting wood or scrounging for useful things on the beach. Every day is more challenging than the last. Exhaustion is setting in to some degree for all of us. There's also a fair amount of homesickness thrown in for good measure. We go to bed earlier and earlier but still don't seem to be catching up any on energy expenditure. I hope we get a storm soon. If Jen and I don't get a break from this hard work, we'll go crazy.

Zomg like no wai!! 1!! Eleventy one!!! 11!! Ya totally! One!!! 11!!

Insert song lyrics here.

*Dances to be inserted song*

The days seem longer here, even if there's less light. Makes me lose my mind. Where did I leave it again?

Random bubbles of insanity pop up in my head!

Boredom paper fills up faster than written paper. NOT FAIR!

Farm boy, farm boy. Where have you been?

*Snuggles and love*

*Skritches and patpats*

Oct. 10

I need to update this more often.

A short list of things I miss:

Fruit

Electricity

The Internet

Friends

Asian foods

Italian foods

All you can eat buffets

Family gatherings

PRIVACY

WARMTH

Variety of foods

We're getting lots of wood cut, and it looks like today is going to be sunny day in a row No. 4. Found some wild peas yesterday on an exploration up around the fishing hole. Luckily for me I'm the only one who eats peas, so more for me! YAY!

I keep having strange half-remembered dreams, but at least they're not dreams about home anymore. That's always a plus.

Time for work now. Maybe more later.
